Acceleration of Decommissioning

On 5 July, Nexstep’s annual Re-use & Decommissioning report was presented at Campus@Sea. The report, entitled “Accelerating Decommissioning”, highlights the accelerated decommissioning activities in the Netherlands in 2022.

Thijs Starink, Managing Director of Nexstep, emphasised the motivation to accelerate decommissioning in an environmentally friendly and future-proof manner.

Sybilla Dekker, Chair of the North Sea Council, emphasised the importance of cooperation between all parties involved in decommissioning. The panel discussed topics such as accelerating decommissioning activities, environmentally friendly decommissioning and regulations.

Key conclusions included the accelerated pace of decommissioning activities, cost savings and a better understanding of decommissioning processes thanks to cooperation within Nexstep.

There is also a need for greater clarity and predictability in legislation and regulations. The report emphasises the importance of constructive dialogue between stakeholders and the pursuit of nature conservation and biodiversity in the North Sea.

This is Nexstep’s sixth annual report and was presented at Campus@Sea, which focuses on accelerating innovation for sustainable multiple use of the North Sea.
