Project meeting
Last week, Jan-Hendrik Schretlen and Peter Scheijgrond attended the project meeting for the North Sea Two Offshore Solar Pilot project. They received a comprehensive update on the results achieved and had the unique opportunity to see Oceans of Energy’s floating solar panels with their own eyes at North Sea Farmers’ Offshore Test Site.
Brigitte Marie-Anne Vlaswinkel, PhD, gave a comprehensive overview of the past two years of the NS2 project and highlighted the exciting plans for the next two years. The NS2 consortium is committed to the design, validation, demonstration and research of offshore solar.
Informative presentations
Johan van der Molen (NIOZ Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research) gave a presentation on bird research. Luca van Duren (Deltares) looked back on the previous stakeholder event of the North Sea Community of Practice on offshore solar and integration.
Sara Golroodbari (Utrecht University) provided an update on the ongoing work relating to performance assessments of offshore solar energy models, and Virág Szijjártó (TNO) presented a comprehensive analysis of the social added value of offshore solar.
The project meeting concluded with a boat trip with representatives of the NS2 partners and the observation committee to the North Sea Farmers’ Offshore Test Site to visit the NS2 project on the open sea.
NS2 project
The NS2 consortium consists of Oceans of Energy, TKF (BV Twentsche Kabelfabriek), Primo Marine – independent technical advisors for sustainable energy connections at sea, TNO, Deltares, Wageningen Marine Research, NIOZ Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research, Utrecht University and is supported by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy. The project focuses on the design, validation, demonstration and research of environmental and energy systems for Offshore Solar.
Campus@Sea
Campus@Sea recently joined the NS2 project as an observer. We look forward to the next steps in this interesting project. Campus@Sea brings together parties that innovate in the North Sea and on the coast. It is not only a physical location in The Hague; above all, it is a network of networks that drives sustainable innovation. Through meetings, experimentation and demonstration, innovations are developed in the areas of food, energy, safety and sport. Campus@Sea is an initiative of the province of South Holland, the municipality of The Hague and a rapidly growing network of public and private partners.
