About Campus@Sea

At Campus@Sea, we believe it is very important to develop a community of like-minded people. We see the campus in the harbour as a meeting place for this purpose. Here, we are happy to offer substantive and inspiring programming to connect the right people with each other. Connecting the dots and making waves, that is what we stand for!

Campus@Sea is a field lab in the port of Scheveningen focused on learning, working and innovating together to achieve sustainable multiple use of the North Sea. The field lab increases and shares knowledge about multiple use of the North Sea and facilitates testing, demonstrating and validating offshore innovations at sea.

“Connecting the dots and making waves’ emphasises Campus@Sea’s role as a connecting force within the innovative maritime community, building bridges between different stakeholders and accelerating innovations to create impact and advance the sector.

Our vision

Harness the potential of the North Sea for the food, climate and energy transition by achieving smart, safe and sustainable multiple use of the North Sea.

By stimulating innovative combinations between the five domains: renewable offshore energy, sustainable food from the sea, marine nature development, safety & security at sea and water sports.

Our mission

To promote the acceleration of offshore innovations, we offer entrepreneurs and researchers an inspiring maritime meeting place where knowledge and experience about the sustainable multiple use of the North Sea can be shared. We do this in collaboration with companies, research and educational institutions, governments and social organisations.

The collaboration focuses on accelerating maritime innovations through offshore testing, validation and certification of innovations so that they can be applied on a large scale at sea. In this way, our innovation ecosystem contributes to a positive social and economic impact on the North Sea and elsewhere.

Campus@Sea also has a beautiful Event Space overlooking the North Sea. It is the perfect place to come together, inspire and connect. Organise your own meeting here, or work with us to set up an event that fits in with the mission of Campus@Sea.

Connecting the dots and making waves

Campus@Sea acts as a connecting force within the innovative maritime community, building bridges between different stakeholders and accelerating innovations to create impact and advance the sector.

Responsible use of the North Sea requires new technologies, which arise from collaboration between different parties. Campus@Sea facilitates this collaboration within five domains: renewable offshore energy, sustainable food from the sea, marine nature development, safety & security at sea, and water sports.

Within these domains, Campus@Sea brings together businesses, research and educational institutions, government, and social organisations (environment).

Cooperation Campus@Sea

n 2023, a cooperation agreement was signed between Coöperatie Campus@Sea U.A., the Municipality of The Hague and the Province of South Holland. This forms the basis for sustainable cooperation in the coming years, with Campus@Sea playing a leading role for the port of Scheveningen and the region by stimulating innovation and attracting economic activities in the blue economy.

In its economic vision for the port, the Municipality of The Hague emphasises the blue economy, and the Province of South Holland sees campuses as catalysts for innovation and the development of the knowledge economy. As a campus in the port of Scheveningen, Campus@Sea contributes to the realisation of these goals.

The legal form of a cooperative (or cooperative association) was chosen because of the close involvement of the members in the policy and direction of the campus. This facilitates the sharing of knowledge, the expansion of the community and the acceleration of innovation, which is in line with the objective of Campus@Sea.

Community

Third largest city in the Netherlands

The Hague is the third largest city in the Netherlands, has a large and varied labour pool, talent and educational opportunities, and enjoys a strong national and international reputation.

Working, learning and innovating

The Hague is located directly on the sea and the port of Scheveningen is compact. This makes the port very suitable for knowledge-intensive use as a campus where living, working, learning and innovation come together.

Maritime knowledge cluster and policymakers within reach

The Port of Scheveningen benefits from the maritime knowledge cluster, the national administrative centre with policymakers, and the international (legal and energy) community within easy reach.

City of peace and justice

The Hague is the city of peace and justice. Campus@Sea adds to this the dialogue on sustainable multiple use of the sea. Strengthening nature and biodiversity is the starting point for all of Campus@Sea’s planned activities.

Home port for top-level maritime sport

Scheveningen, with its top sailing centre, is the home port of top-level maritime sport. This means that the Port of Scheveningen can be used as a venue for maritime events and conferences.
